Next week there are a lot of important WC qualifications.

In Belgium are the people optimistic, if we can beat Bosnie (away) we can reach WC 2006.

What do you think about the next wc matches.

Bosnia never lost match in Zenica town and this match is last chance for our national team, too. Problem is that four players can not play, because referee Benet destroyed our team in last match vs Spain( two red cards and 8eight yellow).Especially, Beslija player of Genk and Grlic (Duisburg) and Salihamidzic(surgery).But we hope that we will win, like Norway last year.

Australia won their first leg play-off 7-0 against the Solomon Islands so i reckon they should go onto meet the fifth placed South American team.

Also a few African teams should qualify this week with a host of new faces a possibilty including no Cameroon.

Absolutely ! No discuss. You deserve to win this match. Antheunis is an idiot in tactic. Too defensive (typically flamish-belgian). He missed to qualify Belgium for European Championship in Portugal and now for WC. But he was protected by the federation until now. I hope he'll be fired. At least!
Good luck to B-H for the future.

Thank you very much. We will need luck, especially on Wednesday vs Lithuania. Public opinions are that your coach lost match vs Barbarez, Bajramovic and others.

As I can see predictions for Bosnia are more postive than yesterday, but take care our national team can surprise everybody in both sense positive and NEGATIVE.

Germany
Japan
Iran
Saudi Arabia
South Korea
Argentina
The Ukraine
USA

Just watched a brilliant match on eurosport involving Cameroon and the Ivory Coast. A win for the Ivory Coast would have put them through and a draw would have left their qualification in their own hands with just Sudan to play. However Cameroon won 3-2 with a goal in the last 5 mins. Qualification is now in Cameroons hands and it looks like they will qualify.

I think Ghana qualified too for the first time, because they lead by 3 points and their direct results to those 2 teams (South Africa and Congo DR) is better (3-0 home win and 2-0 away win against SA and 0-0 home and 1-1 away against Congo DR) and because South Afica and Congo DR play eachother the last game, only 1 of them can reach the some points as Ghana and direct result counts.

In South-America Brazil can qualify today.
They lead with 4-0 against Chile.
In Africa, in every pool 2 ore 3 teams can win:
Pool-1: Togo ore Senegal, Togo has the best chance!!
Pool-2: Gahna has the best chance, but COngo and South-Africa too, Krdeluxe has allready told why.
Pool-3: Cameroon has now the best chances tp qalify after winning this weekend, but Ivorcoast(ore must I say Cote-D'Ivor ore Elfenbeincoast)
has chance too.
Pool-4: Angola and Nigeria has the best chance, but it does matter what igeria gonne do tonight in Algaria, Zimbabwe has a little chance too.
Pool-5: Tunis had the best chance, but Marocco to, they'll meet each-otter at the last match in Tunis.

Dear Dynamozagreb,

Yes, with one match to go Gahna has 3 points more than Congo DR and South-Africa and a better goal-difference, head-to-head Gahna has a better result against both, but I thought the goal-difference has an higher priority than the results head-to-head.
Are you sure about the ruwl head-to-head?!?!

That means Gahna didn't officialy qalify, but by head-to-head they did.
Is Gahna allready qualified ore not?!?!?

Re: world cup Qualification this week

Yes eoinh is right, on fifa.com it says by teams with same point they look at points gained in group matches between the teams concerned and than goal difference. The goal diffence between Ghana and Congo DR is the same (1-1) and i think it doesnt matter who scored the away goal, so Congo DR can still catch Ghana (but South Africa is definitly out). Next point is goal diffence in all group matches (13-4 for Ghana and 12-8 for Congo DR). Still big chance for Ghana, because Congo DR play South Africa away.

When there will be the draw for groups stage?
And where?

Re: world cup Qualification this week
Author: nitsansh

The draw for the world cup finals is on December 9th at Leipzig.

Anyone has an idea when the draw for the play-offs in Europe would be made???

Also, how exactly the best 2 runners-up, which qualify automatically, will be determined? How will they compare groups of 6 teams and 7 teams??

BTW... add Brazil to the list of qualifyers...

Mexico should book its place on Wednesday with draw at home to Panama.

I think the rest of the qualifyers won't be determined until the next round on October 8th... maybe Portugal will also qualify on Wednesday with win in Russia if Slovakia fails to beat Latvia...

Costa Rica can practically clinch the 3rd place in CONCACAF with win at home to Trinidad, unless Guatemala upset USA. Draw or win for Trinidad will probably keep the battle for 3rd place alive until the last round on Oct 12, when Guatemala host Costa Rica.

Also Paraguay and Ecuador are close to clinch the 3rd and 4th places in South America, but the next round isn't until the weekend of Oct 8-9.

World Cup tie-break rules - the official version...

7 In the league system, the ranking in each group is determined as
follows:
(a) greater number of points obtained in all the group matches;
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above criterion,
their ranking shall be determined as follows:
(b) greater number of points obtained in the group matches
between the teams concerned;
(c) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the
teams concerned;
(d) greater number of goals scored in the group matches between
the teams concerned;
(e) goal difference in all the group matches;
(f) greater number of goals scored in all the group matches;
(g) a play-off on neutral ground

Away goals don't count in WC, only in UEFA competitions...

Quote from FIFA website: "To determine the 2 best 2nd placed teams, the results against the teams of the same group in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place will be taken into consideration."

Which means: In groups of 7, the results against the bottom team are thrown into the dustbin. This can get particularly interesting in group 1 because Andorra (currently on 5 points) and Armenia (4 points) play each other on the final day of group matches. Romania collected 6 points against Andorra but only 4 points against Armenia - this might make a crucial difference.

I'd expect the European playoffs to be drawn 1 or 2 days after the final group matches which will be played on Oct 12.

You still believe that Romania can become 2nd?
And they would still have 3 loses, compared to Poland and Sweden currently only 1, and maybe plus 1 against England/Croatia would still make them favorite to go through. Goal difference: Sweden:+24, Poland:+18, Romania:+9.
Ofcourse there is more chance for them to get best 2nd then say Spain or France...

Yes, you're right about Romania's meagre chances of becoming 2nd. It was already very late last night...

But it's still very ironic that a match like Andorra vs Armenia could decide who's going to qualify and who's not. Just imagine the Czechs dropping 2 points against Armenia on Wednesday...

UEFA should really do their homework and change this silly system of "uneven" groups. The number of UEFA members has exploded in the past 15 years, and as a consequence I've always been in favour of having a preliminary qualifying round for the weakest nations. They do it in Africa and Asia, why don't we do it in Europe? Let's have 3 or 4 mini tournaments with 4 teams each as a 1st round and then a main qualifying campaign with 8 groups of 5.

In combination with Ukraines qualification, the same group is 99.9% sure of having it's second spot having to play a play-off game. The best possible 2nd spot would be Greece with 18 points (discarding Kazak results). England has already more - 19, and Sweden has 18, but a goaldifference that is much better(+24 againt Greece current +5)

Re: world cup Qualification this week

based on the Andorra/Armenia situation, is it possible that a team may deliberately lose or draw against one of them to help there own qualification chances?

This situation occured in the 1999 Cricket World Cup when Australia tried to help the West Indies qualify because they had worse results than New Zealand!

Re: world cup Qualification this week

Also when the Czechs will be 2nd in the group, the match between Andorra and Armenia can still be very important.

Assume both Andorra (away versus Netherlands) and Armenia (away versus Czechs) lose on wednesday, then the last match determines who will be last, Armenia has to win to take 6th place.

For the Czechs is will most likely be favorible if Andorra stays 6th, because then their goaldifference for the ranking of 2nd placed teams is higher (they won 8-1 and 4-0 versus Andorra, and they won 3-0 versus Armenia, and I don't see them win with 8-0 on Wednesday, so their results versus Andorra are (much) better).

Another nice possible lose on purpose(for those who understands the WC seeding system explained in another thread):
Holland might want to help Czech to qualify, as that will put France in a lower position on the FIFA ranking, which might just help Holland get seeded during the WC in Germany. (ofcourse losing might cause themselves to drop a spot on the ranking)

Wait a minute!

Why head-to-head don't apply in Ghana-Kongo case?
I know Fifa changed the rule and now head-to-head matches count and not goal-difference.
But Ghana has scored one away goal in Kongo. Why does not that count?

So for exampe if Sweden and Croatia finish with same points, Craotia beat Sweden away 1-0, and If Sweden beats Croatia f.e. 3-2, than Sweden wouldn't be automatically first, but overall goal difference would decide?

Is that what youre telling me?

(b) greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
(c) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
(d) greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned;
(e) goal difference in all the group matches;
