UEFA Cup draw

I have attempted the 'pre-draw' into 8 groups of 10 and then looked at country protection issues that arise, involving, Greece (both Thessaloniki clubs!), Germany, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and France.
These can be resolved with minimal adjustments involving only 6 of the 8 groupings.
The grouping I am interested in does not have any issues arising and need not be changed to balence other groups. If this proves to be correct then the second grouping has as seeds: Roma, Sevilla, Slavia Praha, Hamburg and Bolton Wanderers, and as non-seeds: Sporting Braga, CSKA Sofia, Germinal Beerschoot, Midtjylland and MyPa.

MalcolmW,

I am sorry to disappoint you but I found a way to distribute the teams from last year's draw achieving country protection with a lesser standard deviation. Therefore, I believe, it is simply a computer software at UEFA that follows certain procedures after the team rankings are entered. I guess these procedures are somehow related to an algorithm that starts checking for country protection from the very first group of 10 and it "simply" fixes the places of the teams adequately all the way down...

However, even though it might make sense otherwise, aiming at ranking positions asverage in each of the groups of ten, is not what is the ultimate goal.

Sadly enough, there is no one to explain it to us in details. Still, I think it will not be quite fair if there is an algorythm behind the scene that doesn't eventually try to produce the 8 groups as competitive as possible. And I think this is the case...

Otherwise, being Bulgarian, and a great fan of CSKA and I hope the proposed seedings in the other forum are wrong at least a bit so that CSKA is situated in another of the groups...

i beleve its a computer draw making this. In the other hand, no human should be alow to make such separations between the teams. Corect ? Should be fair.

peter, when a computer is doing the draw it makes so using a human programmed software. That follows an algorythm that is predetermined in a way the programmer did the software. In other words, it is after all human beings that have decided what will be the exact procedure in details...

sampfan83,

I wonder what is the engine of their Randomize function. For example, I am not at all pleased with Randomize function in EXCELL. And I suppose they must use SOME kind of randomize function in deciding pre-draw groups. I mean some randomize functions seem to be more randomize than the others.

Weeeel,

Red Star has ability to score but has a very poor defence indeed. I fear it will prevail. We are sure to receive some stupid goals.

Dnipro v Hibs is a good tie for both clubs since either could win. I know Dnipro will probably be counted as the favourites but the underdog status will probably count in there favour.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Here Hibees aren't considered as a problem. Actually everyone think they are best draw from those 5 teams and wants Dnipro to take all points. But miracles happen.

Ive seen Hibs recently and they were useless. Cork City played them in a recent friendly with four first teamers. We went three nil up at half time and then took all our players off and put on youngsters. Hibs then came back and drew 3-3 in normal time. Cork won the penalty shoot out but with our full team we would have trounced them. I cant see you having any trouble with Hibs to be honest.

Hibs had a total reserve team for that game against Cork City. Also, Cork were well into there season whereas Hibs hadn't even kicked a ball yet. Furthermore, that game meant more to Cork because you because you wanted to prove that you could compete at that level (which is ludicrous) whereas Hibs were just looking to build up fitness. Cork didn't half fall apart when Hibs brought on there best players in the second half.

Having said all of that I dont think the Hibees have much of a chance against Dnipro from what is an ever improving Ukrainian league. Likewise, I cant see the mighty Cork City doing anything against Slavia Prague.
