How would the media react in your country???

I know that some of my fellow Scottish posters like Saltire give no credence to the media in our country, however the response to Rangers win against Anorthosis has baffled me.

Rangers performance has been much criticised

"Rangers were poor"

"Rangers will have to shape up"

"Rangers have a defensive crisis" (Rangers conceded their first competitive goal in over 7 hours of football last night)

Rangers last night played a side which had Rodriguez making his debut in defence, Michael Ball in defence having been out injured most of pre-season and Pierre FanFan playing right-back for the first time ever.

Only the glasgow evening times led with a positive headline "In sight of the Promised Land". I can count at least 5 newspapers that were deliberately emphasising the negative aspects of our game.

Would the media in your country refuse to give a club credit that had just delievered an away Champions League Qualifying win?? (compare and contrast with the "Pride" they felt at Celtic losing to Artmedia over two legs).

Do you feel the media in your country attempts to influence the morale of certain teams?

Sorry if you think this is not relevant Bert.

In Romania, if the team is favourite and should normally win, the situation is the same. Most newspapers tend to emphasize the bad things about the match, especially in situations with tight scores, like Glasgow's. Only when teams are underdogs and obtain surprising results, that's when praises actually don't stop. For a long period of time.

nelster once again i find myself in total agreement but i would take it one step further to include the tv coverage , last night jock brown was nearly lost for words such was his rabid tirade during the match at any chance he could get i,e the PENALTY (ball to arm jock no intent ). But we shouldnt really be surprised as all the media are interested in is short term reporting.

I think Rangers were poor last night and indeed I'd go as far as saying Rangers were lucky. Lucky that Anorthosis don't have a good striker, and lucky that the referee turned a blind eye to Marvin Andrews quite stupid push on the Cypriot striker in the last few mins.

If we were playing a half decent European side(of the sort we shall come across in the CL) there is no way that defense wouldn't have conceded numerous goals.

But you're right; it was a kind of concept back four. Hopefully that will be the reasoning.

On a positive note though, i thought Ricksen and Novo were great and of course now we will go through.

SkyOddity, against Zizkov for 120 minutes we were outstanding and lost but were labelled flops.

Against CSKA last year Novo had a valid goal disallowed to put is in charge of the tie, we were labelled flops.

Now that we win a game we are still flops.

Will the English press give a toss that Man Utd were slack, Debrecen scored but it was wrongly disallowed? No because Man Utd did the job, they won.

nelster, believe me, those headings are normal.

Russia has stupid ridiculous media. After win of Russian team - "Russian football is the best in the world", after defeat - "Russian football is dead"

Ridiculous shit. I don't recommend reading sports analitics much.

They are not. Old Firm are GREAT teams. Maybe even underrated, but not overrated. Maybe Scottish Championship is their problem. Scottish fans know better.

Ah Miki, thats because Kilmarnock are rubbish. We have this wonderful habit of not getting our best teams in Europe (usually due to Cup finalists!)

Grrr. Sports newspapers are obviously the same shit everywhere. In Bulgaria it's the same. 2 years ago Levski were declared national traitors because they didn't eliminate....Liverpool And that was after their most succesfull season in Europe in the last 20 years! In more recent days CSKA for exapmle got a lot of criticism after their 2:0 AWAY WIN in Tirana in CLQR2 2 weeks ago. Strange, isn't it?

And bulgarian football is declared dead after every single lost game in Europe. No matter who lost against what kind of opposition. Sometimes I feel like journalists expect every bulgarian team to win every year the CL or the UEFA Cup and everything below that goal is considered a national desaster.

The turkish media is probably the worst sports media in the world. I can give you tons of examples but then my post would be several pages long.

But i can give you one recent incident.

Fenerbahce played Everton in a pre-season game a few weeks ago. Fenerbahce won the game 5-0. Fenerbahce played very good football but we all knew this was no measure for the future...because a friendly is always a friendly. But the media made us already the Turkish champions and that we would go very far in the C.L.

The following weekend (5 days later) we played our first league game against genclerbirligi who always play good football against us. We played one very good first half with 2 shots on the posts and a couple of good chances more. In the second half the pace dropped and the game ended 0-0. Let me remind you that the weather was above 30 degrees and the humidity near 100%. Maybe we should have won but under the circumstances it was an ok result being the first league game.

Now the media who said we would easily become champions 5 day earlier were now saying Fenerbahce is no longer a champion candidate in the turkish league and that we wont win a single game in the C.L.

If we win this weekend we will again become a champion candidate.
