(The referee "forgot" to play extra time and decided to take penalty's directly after 90 minutes, the FA will decide later what will happen with this match)

What kind of drugs has the referee been using? Didn't the players and coaches of both clubs intervene? Has the FA already decided about the match?

FA decision: extra time will be played (If necessary with penalties after that)
What kind of drugs? protest of the players or other people - I was wondering about that too. Somebody must have said: you're doing it wrong. This is Holland, man, not the DDR!(no offence intended, just meaning that in Holland it is very accepted that you oppose to the ruler)

Re: Domestic Cups 2005/06

@spoonman

I think the referee was confused, because in the regional amateur cups, when the match is even after 90 minutes indeed no extra time is played and penalty's are taken directly.
As this was a match between 2 amateurteams, he must have thought it was the same here. But this was a match in the national cup, and then extra time has to be played.

Not to start a stupid discussion, Ricardo, but this actually happened in Holland, not in DDR. Of course it is a giant fluke by the referee (probably from Holland), but it has hardly ever happened in DDR (Ordnung muss sein). But blame the Germans, and don't mention the war (Fawlty Towers)

Well, the GDR did of course never lose a war - they were on the side of the glorious Soviet army. And learning from the Soviet Union meant lerning to win. Or so they thought...

spoonman, without looking in my crystal ball I presume you are Hollandaise. Shame on you. I would not recommend you to go to a Dutch library to borrow history books. Obviously. I don't think Ricardo meant any harm with his comments, though I know that Holland has a very peculiar re-writing of history, but you are way out of line.

No way, I'm German! And therefore I'd never borrow history books from a Dutch library...

Actualy, Anita, that is exactly what I meant to say. Never thought that this could happen here in Holland. Here we oppose to every authority, contradict him/her anyway we can. Not as bad as in France, were it's even worse, but in DDR it was 'follow the leader, leader'. Though that was again a Spanish song, if I remember correctly.

In this case let's go seing referee rating.I'm not sure that nederlands referee are more rated than german referee.

Belgian First level teams just start at 1/16 final level mid november.

Until now (4th round) only Big club to be eliminated was Antwerp. They played the Cup Winners Final in 1993. The oldest club of Belgium plays at 2th level and are eliminated by a 3th level team this weekend.

The last match of the german Cup:
Eintracht Braunschweig - Borussia Dortmund 2-1
Not so much of a surprise as it may seem, because Dortmund usually gets eliminated from the cup quite early and on the other hand Braunschweig (just promoted to second league) kicked out a couple of teams from Bundesliga in the last years.

The Spanish FA has changed the format of the cup, the profesional league was doing some pressure and this is the result:

First level teams not competing in Europe get a bye to 3rd round.
Teams competing in Europe (even Intertoto) get a bye to the final phase (5th round).
In order to get the correct number of teams, the 3rd level teams get a bye to 2nd round, and will start later than the 2nd level teams.

The new format is:

SECOND PHASE (1 leg play-offs)
1st round (August 31st): played by the 20 2nd level teams (B teams are excluded).
2nd round (September 15th): 10 winners + 24 3rd level teams (18 coming from the preliminary round + 6 that got a bye).
3rd round (October 20th): 17 winners + 11 1st level teams.
4th round (October 26th): 14 winners of previous round.

FINAL PHASE (2 leg play-offs)
7 teams from the 2nd phase + 9 teams compiting in Europe (including IC)
1/8 finals: January 4th and 11th
QF: January 18th and 25th
SF: February 1st and 8th
Final: April 12th

Yesterday, there was a nice anecdote on Dutch TV about Ajax (Reserve) vs. Cambuur. My Dutch isn't that good and I don't know if I've understood this correctly but I think it was like this:

A Cambuur player was injured and one of his teammates kicked the ball away from the field so that the injured player could be medicated. After that was done, an Ajax player wanted to give the ball back to Cambuur and made a long and high kick from midfield towards the goalkeeper. The only problem was: The ball ended up in the back of the net. A beautiful goal!

It think Ajax were already leading 2-0 before this "accidental goal" and they wanted to be fair, so they allowed Cambuur to score one goal as well, obviously without trying to defend. It looked strange but fair is fair!

I'm glad that we've got at least one Dutch channel (Nederland 2) on cable TV here in Düsseldorf. There's quite a lot of European cup football on that channel
