Malmö FF kick out Maccabi Haifa

Maccabi Haifa and Malmö FF played a real thriller tonight. After a 3-2 MFF win in the first leg in Sweden, Maccabi went ahead 2-1 in the second half through young substitute Arbaitman, who was booked for taking off his shirt celebrating, but the Israeli were ahead on away goals. Ten minutes later, Arbaitman the goalscorer unexplicably hit a lost ball with his hand, and got his second yellow. Some rollercoaster 20 minutes for him!

And so, one man up, and after having a few very close chances in the 80’s, substitute Abelsson equalized in the 89th, sending Malmö to QR3! An absolutely amazing game, and for all us Swedes we’re hoping that this could be beginning of something new. Jari Litmannen came on for his MFF debut in the second half and did some good things, some very bad. But he could prove vital.

My spontaneous reaction would be to hope for Thun. Where, really, does Dinamo Kiev stand today?

Great done By Malmo!!! I predicted 2-1 for israeli team so It when wrong in the end

Kiev is much stronger than Thun so for Malmo, I hope that they will get Thun of course, but I bet on Kiev! And I support Kiev as well. But...its time for swedish futball to recover! Even if they would loose to Kiev, they still have their chances left in UC!

Best wishes to Malmo in UC!

Let's not write them off that fast...

The only thing that annoys me about MFF's chances of playing the CLGS is that their 27,500 capacity Malmö Stadion is poor for football (running tracks) and only has about 14,000 seated places. Should big teams come to visit, there will be a choice between a miniscule audience at their true home, or a relocation of the home games to Copenhagen. But a decision about a new stadium has been taken. As you said, Kronsky, it's time for a Swedish revival!

Very decisive equalizer - great ! Now Thun has to survive for
2nd half and Malmö has very good chance to be long waited Swedish team after long period.

...and just to think how the draw can be so arbitrary.

Last year, the Swedish representative Djurgården (who had a higher coeff than Malmö has now) got Juventus in the 3rd round. Did an amazing 2-2 in Turin, then the Italians started playing in Stockholm and won 4-1.

This year, Malmö, with less European experience than DIF in the last five years, get to play Thun in QR3...

Whoever will win, it will be a refreshment. And my guess is that it will be very, very tight.

Would Malmö FF be allowed to play in Copenhagen? Last year Aachen wasn't allowed to play in the stadium in Kerkrade which is just across the border in the Netherlands.

I know this has been discussed on some occasions. I don't know of any rule saying you can't play in a neighbouring country. Do you have any sources? But in the end, it would feel strange for MFF to play in Denmark...

And it will make the stadium crisis in Sweden painfully obvious.

Well here is an article about the circumstances of the Aachen / Kerkrade case. Apparently UEFA can decide if they want to allow a team to play in a foreign stadium according to their rules but are not inclined to do so.

I think Maccabi Haifa is really tired of Scandinavian opposition. Last year, Rosenborg eliminated them in R3 in extra time after equalising in the last minute and now Malmö eliminates them with a goal in the last minute. I'm just curious if they will draw a Danish team next year and if we can continue the trend.
