I'd like to congratulate Bert Kassies on his amazing site first of all. It's great to have some understanding of how the seeds work.

I have a question though. All FA's must be able to tell the clubs, at the start of the current season, competing in their leagues where they will enter Europe ( competition and round )in 06/07 depending on where they finish in the league in season 05/06 . Correct?

This link shows the countries co-effiecient for 06, does this mean Scotland will be in 9th place or will this change throughout the season? Will Scotland have an automatic place in the Champs Lge. next year?

aliihsan, thankyou. This makes sense to me that the entrants for 06/07 are decided at the end of the season 04/05.
It seems to be the only thing missing from this site, a table which shows what posistion ( country ranking ) gets you which places ( automatic or qualifying ) in the champs league.

Lunairs seems to disagree though. Does 9th or 10th place get a country an automatic spot?

If you scroll a bit down at the main page of the website, you will find a table that lists the CL entrants. You will see that only the 9 champions from countries ranked 1-9 enter the group stage directly. Below this table the general rules for the use of the cup-holder spot are given.

At the top of main page you will find the link to 2005/2006 Qualification. In the heading of this page it is explained why the champion of the 10th country on the ranking list gained direct access to the 1st round in the current season.

Thankyou, I managed to find the bit on the main page about countries 1-9 getting automatic places and why the 10th placed could get an automatic place too.

I'm slightly confused by the other part.

"At June 10 UEFA decided that the UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool will compete in next season's UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. This implies that the champion of the 10th country on the ranking list (Turkey) will gain direct access to the 1st round, and the champion of the 16th country on the ranking list (Poland) will gain direct access to the 3rd qualifying round, and the champion of the 26th country on the ranking list (Romania) will gain direct access to the 2nd qualifying round."

Where it says "(Turkey) will gain direct access to the 1st round " I take it this means 1st round "group stages" as supposed to 1st round qualifying?

If this is the case I understand. Everyone is evectively bumped up a place and Fenerbache, luckily for them, gained automatic entry?

The qualification rounds are not a part of the Champions League itself, so the CL starts with the group stage. In UEFA-Cup the 1st round is the knock-out round with 80 teams before the group stage.

I have read this thread several times but I am struggling for an answer. If, as the posted link shows, Scotland is in 9th position at the end of 04/05 surely they have an automatic place in the group stage for 06/07 season.

One of the posts states Scotland is 10th?? where does this come from?

If Scotland is 10th on coefficient list then I understand that there group stage place is dependent on who wins the competition.

Correct?"" True most of the time, unless your league qualifies for 4 CL spots. But we probab;y should start that discussion in this thread.

But I wonder when do the leagues effectively know the spots in next EC. I mean when does UEFA release the official rankings and regulations? Are they already published for season 2006/2007?

Author: Forza-AZ Date: 08-08-2005, 16:44	Usually there is a list on uefa.com somewhere in February/March I think. UEFA could change the system of course of the CL and UEFA-cup. So we know how many teams each country has for the 2006/07 season now, but it's only final in which round the teams start when UEFA confirmes that they don't change the system of the CL and UEFA-cup.
