Edited by: jol at: 30-07-2005, 11:20 | Do the points that the teams earn in the qualifying matches not count for the team coefficient? In the Team Coefficient page on the UEFA European Cup Football site (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/index.html), the points and matches for the teams are not recorded. |

| Points in the qualifying round only count towards country coefficient. |

| That's one of the things UEFA should change. So that teams from lower ranked countries also get the opportunity to score individual points. |

| Right on, Bert!! I came to the same conclusion myself--points won in qualifying matches are one-half points won in the "real tournaments," so counting the qualifying match points for the clubs involved would be a reasonable way to balance inequities a bit. There have been numerous complaints from Forum participants about the "unfairness" of the seeding system--here's where the UEFA might try a change, the effect of which MIGHT be to keep clubs from the top-ranked countries from (almost) always being seeded in whichever competition they are involved. So, how about it, all you even-more-compulsive-than-I forumites: go back 5 years making this change in club coefficients, and see what current coefficients would be. Fun, fun, fun for the "hot stove league." |

| Bert, you are so right my friend. Most smaller teams have to rely on every other team in their country to perform well, and at instances, they have to divide all of their effort by 2 or 3 since the other ones didn't get any points. I think it's a little unfair. That's why we'll always have kind of the same teams around the bottom unless they get a break one year and get out on their own... |

| See team ranking 2005 with points from qualification rounds. The points for the 5-year team ranking in this calculation are the same points as used for the 5-year country ranking. So, points of qualification matches only count for 50%. Compare with the usual team ranking 2005 where points scored in qualification matches do not count as individual points for the team ranking.
Don't expect too many changes in the ranking of teams from high ranked countries compared to teams from low ranked countries. But it gives certainly more chances on a seeded position to teams that scored individual points in qualification rounds of the last five years.
See team coeffcients 2005 with points from qualification rounds for the points of 2004/2005 only. |

| Hmmm. Very, very interting indeed If this method was used by UEFA my CSKA for example wouldn't be unseeded against any generic spanish team like now. And regular eurocup participants with points in QR like Dynamo Tbilisi would double their coefficient and have a real chance to be seeded all the way through QR1 and QR2. |
