| Must be the most extraordinary result ever in a qualifying round for the Champions League since the tournament started in the early 90s, at least as far as I can remember. Anyone remember a comparable result?
Celtic out of Europe in August? They will be furious in Glasgow. How could Strachan have possibly had a worse start? |

Edited by: kurt at: 27-07-2005, 22:53 | in my eyes, celtic will be almost bankrupt, they had already so many debts, and the stupid chairman and friends probably have calculated a lot of income from the champions league and now nothing
this is the best result ever for belgian football, belgium definitely will become again 9th
i know that genk, a seeded club has lost in round 2 with 5-1 against maribor in 1999/2000 and the return match was 3-0 for genk, just not enough, but you see, it is possible |

| Yes I remember the Genk result, but although it might be embarassing for a Belgian club to lose to a Slovenian side, Genk do not have the prestige and expectations of Celtic. If it was Anderlecht, then perhaps it would be more comparable. Still, I remember thinking at the time it was an amazing result. I remember Maribor then went on to reach the group stage by beating a French League side I think, I forget who, so obviously Maribor were stronger than most people realised.
Nobody was sent off tonight, but I heard Celtic had players carried off injured.
Sorry for starting another thread on the subject Red Star, but I just couldn't believe the result when I saw it! |

2-0 Artmedia "Celtic have been a shambles pre-season and as long as the opposition is decent it will happen".
Celtic were so ridiculous tonight you wouldn't believe it.
Lets look at some cold hard facts.
Their captain is an over the hill overweight 34 year old. Their 2 full backs came from Southampton and Burnley wher they couldn't get a game.
What's left of their team from Seville is now pension age.
Rangers fans will be criticised for loving this.... but!
Rangers will pocket 3 million extra TV money should they qualify. Rangers now need only 1 more seed to go before being in Pot 3. |

| nelster,
correct - failure to invest at seville means inevitble decline. again correct we let our most valuable asset go...and signed a 34 year old on the contract he wanted - you couldnt make it up.
2 points.....rangers still have to win their qualification by no means certain that aside rangers are in with a chance of pot 3 due to us. |

| Correct Saltire, If Rangers draw Real Betis then it's 50-50.
We need a good draw to be sure.
Certainly I have a lot of faith in guys like Ferguson, Prso and Buffel. I honestly can't see any side living with Buffel.
It's just a shame Artmedia Bratislava are seeded. |

| Yeah, Artmedia will be awesome draw for unseeded team. |

| Well, as long as Celtic is playing VERY BADLY, Artmedia could be a good draw to unseeded teams... but, if they smash Celtic 5-0, what can they do with other minor unseeded teams? Could they even be an upset to, say, Everton? I only saw Celtic playing Sporting Lisbon and the game was a bit rubbish from both sides, but Celtic didn't seem a completely fragile team as this result suggests... Anyway, doesn't anyone consider the possibility of a 6-0 in the 2nd leg? |

Date: 28-07-2005, 11:21
| Artmedia have lost 2-0 in Kazakhstan and have lost both league games without scoring a goal.
4 of their goals were simply a ball over the top or through a big hole for someoneto run on to.
Only the 3rd goal was special, a volley from 25 yards.
Celtic missed 3 80% chances, 1 of which was an open goal from 2 yards over the crossbar.
believe me Celtic were hopeless. |

| Hmmm...
Imagine...no scottish teams in CL, and just one in R1 and in R1 Rangers get Groclin, loosing the match and...WHOPS! Not scottish teams in EC...
I mean, we have seen worse scenario than this one before, havent we?! If I would be Rangers fan, I would not be so sure about enetring Cl group stage. Let me remind You about the Celtic match yesturday...
And yes, Celtic have a good team, no question about it...

Edited by: saltire at: 28-07-2005, 18:02 | guys,
we do not have a good team and have gone down/back a lot. The ONLY thing i`d say is we have played 3 games so this was the first competetive game with a new team...but it dont look good artmedia are a tidy but not especially outstanding outfit...wait till you see the goals we lost..division 16 defending
if i was getting them as the seeded team i`d be pleased although they deserve great credit as they played to win and did...ouch.
nelster c`mon chap i`ve seen a lot of rangers and the problem is mcleish needs to pick the right formation or its no good. Buffel is still good only in patches and Barry still needs consistency more. but hey you have a better chance of qualification than us so i`d take that every day of the week
HUNGera....i love the wee smilies...makes me laugh through the tears |

Artmedia is a good team? i mean is it just luck with celtic's poor preformance or they can really beat unseeded teams like Everton or Udinese... |

| They are average, no better than Hearts or Hibernian here in Scotland.
And they have never hit 5 against Celtic!
4 of the goals were just ridiculous schoolboy stuff.
They always had a man standing somewhere with no celtic player near him that they could play the ball to. |

so, celtic can win with 10-0, but everybody is hoping that celtic looses again |

00/01 Real Zaragoza against Wisla Krakow. Real win 4-1 at home and was leading in Krakow 1-0 after first half. Real started to defend their lead and Wisla scored 4 goals and whent through to next stage.
If Artmedia start to defend them selves from start, then I dont know what the outcome can be...

| 3 years ago Blackburn were leading 3:0 after 60 min. against CSKA in Sofia (first match in England was 1:1) they decided they have won the match. 20 min. lates in was 3:3 and Blackburn had all the luck on Earth not to be eliminated. I still believe that 5 more min. and CSKA would have scored a 4th goal. But I don't believe Artmedia will behave like the big farovite and allow any surprised. If they can survive the first 20 min. they are through. |

| I came back yesterday from a (well deserved) vacation and what a shock. 5-0. First I thought there probably eas a typo. Not so. But as Esbjerg also came back froma home defeat winning 6-0 away, I think Celtic can do it too! Though if Artmedia keep their head cool and play a bit like last week..... |
