| Proud of our victory in Bosnia-herzegowina yesterday, I surely look at the UEFA-tables...... Luxembourg got by that victory 1.665 points...... Seeing Kasachstan and azerbaidjan, they got 1.666 points. Why those 0.001 point of difference ? |

| Because 3 x 0.333 = 0.999 and not 1.000. UEFA always rounds down. Have a look at the country ranking and maybe you will understand. |

| Mathematically : 0,9999999999... = 1 (and not nearly 1). Proof:
1/3 = 0,3333333333..... 3 x 1/3 = 3 x 0,3333333333....... = 0,99999999999...... but 3 x 1/3 = 1 So : 0,999999999.... = 1
:-) this proof is correct , you can believe the mathematician in me....... |

| Thank you for telling me about mathematics! (Have a guess who the guy was I got my nickname from ;-))
But as I said before UEFA always rounds down. In the regulations UEFA put it like this: "Coefficients are calculated to the thousandth, and not rounded up."
Meaning that 1/3 = 0.333 2/3 = 0.666 1/3 + 2/3 = 0.999!
Of course I know that this is not mathematically correct, but that's how UEFA counts. |

| Malko,
posting almost every day in this forum you really should know by now how to calculate UEFA coefficients...
The mathematician in you might throw up, but that's the way it is! |

| what about x = 0.999... 10x = 9.999... 9x = 10x-x = 9.999... - 0.999... = 9 so x=1 |

| byl, that's not the way UEFA calcualtes.
UEFA calculates this way: x = 0.999 (nothing behind that, even if it's 0.9999999999999999) 10x = 9.990 9x = 10x-x = 9.990 - 0.999 = 8.991 so x = 0.999 |
