| How does the draw for this tournament work? Can't figure out why the likes of Deportivo and Bilbao, have to start in round 2 yet Valencia, Newcastle, Dortmund etc. enter at round 3??? |

From the teams participating from these countries the best ranked team qualifies for the 3rd round and the other teams qualify for the 2nd round. So as Valencia finished higher in Spain than Deportivo and Bilbao, Valencia starts in round 3 and the others in round 2.
Something similar goes for the countries lower on the list. Who can start in round 2 or round 1 (11 teams start in round 2, 42 start in round 1). |

| Is this decided on the UEFA country rankings also used for the Champions League and UEFA Cup, or is there another ranking for the Intertoto Cup? |

| The same ranking as for UEFA-cup and CL is used. |

In one association does not need use its quota, the places will be alocate to other countries. England, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Netherlands and Turkey applied for one place only (instead of 2), and countries like Scotland, Ukraine, Norway, Bulgaria, Russia, Denmark, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kazakhstan didn't apply at all. So that's 15 places to be divided among the other associations. Spain, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Finland, F.Y.R. Macedonia and Lithuania and Andorra each received an extra place, because they applied at UEFA for more places. |
