changing of ec-home

i know this forum is not for national teams, but as you all are interested in football, i've got a question that maybe you can answer.

here in austria there's a discussion if we could loose the european championship, cause of the delay of the building of the stadium in klagenfurt

what if that really happens?
say we loose the right to hold the competition, but after the qualificatin started, would the bith switzerland and austria loose the chance to play in the ec, or would they just enter the qualification?

i know there's a problem in switzerland too (in zurich)
so this may happen, hopefully i doubt so

They will host the european championship

but if austria and switzerland fail to impress, then i think it will be a very long time before they can think of bidding to host again

Don't worry Lunaris, there is no chance you will lose the EC. The governing bodies just like to say things like that... You have no idea how many times this type of things were told for Athens and the 2004 Olympics...

as said i really doubt that we would loose the ec, but just in case of this possibility i wondered what might happen if the holder of a competition isn't able to hold it, but this decision is made after the qualification started.
is there a solution to this problem?
will the new holder just give his qualification place to the ex-holder?
and what about wc, if the holder changes from one ocntinent to another?

well i don't know if this is an interesting problem, but i just wanted to know.

The 1986 WC was originally given to Columbia , but in 1983 they gave up for financial reason and the WC was given to Mexico. Columbia participated in the qualifiers and Mexico qualified directly.

I cannot really imagine that Austria and Switzerland could fail to meet their commitments. That would be very embarassing not only for these countries, but also for the UEFA.
But without knowing anyhting about the stadiums, it seems to me highly unlikely.

Agree. This is just nonsense. Both Switzerland and Austria have the economy and know-how and infrastructure and logistics and work power to build a stadium in no time.

Just outside my window now in Oslo they are building a new stadium (Bislet Stadium). They started four months ago, torn down the old stadium (built of concrete), and the new one will be tip-top finished this summer to the athletics Golden League-event (at least they are 'en route').

But of course, if Austrians are just as lousy in building stadiums as they are in football later years, I see a major problem.

England, the home of football, and with a trillion-dollar GDP, still has no national stadium. Welcome to the club!
