My desires get in the way of my rational opinions. I think Auxerre will win. I think Parma SHOULD win and won't. I think Villarreal will win (did somebody really predict that the Yellow Submarine will give up two goals at home against AZ??? If that fan got it right, my hat is off to him, but if this were to happen, he could make a lot backing his opinion with coin of the realm.) I think Newcastle will win, but I'll be dancing in the streets if Sporting (ole) can pull it off. Go Liedson! Go Hugo Viana!!

Villareal battling on 2 fronts.
They want to do better in UC than last year.
But primary goal is a place in next year's CL.
I think they have to be 100% focused against AZ if they want to continue their campaign in Europe.
On the other hand, they didn't loose a match in this current campaign or conceding a goal at home, although winning away is a bit of a problem.

AZ plays refreshing and are continuously punching above their weight, relishing their role as underdogs.
Adversary's are underestimating their strength and especially AZ ability to score early goals.
But, the last game against Feyenoord they played weak (or Feyenoord was strong) and they have a tight schedule ahead with important games (including against Villareal)
6 games in 16 days, and if they beat Villareal (not likely but everything is possible) 10 in just 30 days.

Auxerre is a difficult team to predict. Their performance is too irregular to be among the favourites (although their results prove otherwise), but if they play a solid first leg, and probably get away with a small defeat, they will pull through.

IMO CSKA is too big a fish to fry and Auxerre will bow out on away goals.

Newcastle - Sporting Lisbon 2-2 & 1-2
The biggest clash of the UC QF is Newcastle - Sporting Lisbon.
They've met in the group stage before resulting in a 1-1 draw in Newcastle.

Newcastle's strength lies in the ability to wait for that one moment. With Shearer and Kluivert they're headstrong, always posing a threat and difficult to set aside.
But if the team spirit is lacking (as you could see against Aston Villa) Sporting will have a walk over.

Place 3 is for the moment out of reach, but I am sure that one day, Ligue 1 will be again among the Top3-Leagues in Europe. It is in fact already for the moment with no doubt one of the most spectacular in Europe.
