| They left it late, with two dodgy goals in the last 8 minutes but over the two legs they probably deserved to go through.
It was actually quite refreshing watching them, considering that the majority are part-time players. They obviously don't get paid much, but they fought for every ball, and it was a throw back to the old days when players played because they enjoyed the game rather than going throught the motions to pick up a fat pay packet at the end of the week.
Anyway, I wish them all the best against Alemenia Achen, and wouldn't be surprised if it was a close match. |

| Unlucky last night, couldn't believe it last night on the radio, Jimmy Calderwood sounded like he was going to cry.
Would've been a massive chance for you, if I'm correct Aachen are an amateur German team that won the cup?, could be wrong, sounds a far easier draw than Hearts (or Rangers).
If only Barry Nic had been fit. |

| Alemannia Aachen plays in "der zweiten Bundesliga", so second level. It's a professionnal club. |

| nelster, unlucky!!!! You need more than bad luck to be eliminated by an Icelandic team when you play in SPL. A "striking" proof of the lousy quality in SPL behind Old Firm. And absolutely no offense. The result speak for itself. Presume you agree, Geordiepar. But of course, well done, Iceland!
Interesting to see how Hearts will perform vs. Braga. But OK, Hearts probably (far?) better team than Dunfermline?
And second division Aachen, just seeded in late minutes thursday and drawing Hafnarfjördur. Thats lucky. |

| There is a distinctive feel bad factor hanging over Scottish football at the moment, after recent failure to qualify for Euro2004, losing 3-0 at home to Hungary, and Rangers, Hibs and Dunfermline's fallings.
Honestly, you could see the Dunfermline fall a mile off. They had something like five first team players out injured. I mean, even Andreis (sp) Skerla was rushed back early and that just shows the lack of depth Dunfermline have in the squad now. Last year they were easily 4th best (behind Hearts and the Old Firm) in Scotland, and deserved there place in Europe. Unfortunately top striker Stevie Crawford moved down south to England with Plymouth, and the infleuntial David Grondin left for personal reasons. Those players amongst others have not been replaced by players of similar quality, because frankly players of similar quality cant come on free transfers. The Pars are short on money, Crawford was their biggest asset in years and he left on a free.
Doesn't make it any less painful. But well done Hafnarjordur says he (with clenched teeth) they deserve the win, and I wish them allt he best against Aachen (I think they could win it, Aachen arent that great a team - on a par with Dunfermline easily) |

| Losing Crawford, amongst others has been a blow, but by far the buggest loss has been the management team.
If Jimmy Calderwood and Jimmy Nicholl had been in charge then I have no doubt that we would have progressed against the Icelandic team. Since David Hay took over we have won only one game (including pre-season), and that was against a Dutch amateur team.
At the moment Dunfermline are a team with a very small squad, with no direction and absolutely no confidence. Unfortunately we have no money either so changing things are going to be hard.
That's to take nothign away from Hafnarfjordur who deserved to win and the standout player in both legs was Emil Halfreddson. Superb player and how I would love to see him at East End Park.
Dunfermline have been hit harder than most by financial troubles and only just avoided going into administration last year. We are a pale imitation of the team that finished 4th last year and performed so well. |

| I meant to add, if you look at my previous posts I did say that I thought Hafnarfjordue had a great chance of getting through, even after the first leg.
Only consolation I have is that they were 6/1 with the bookies and I also put Rangers to draw on Wednesday at the bookies. |
