Danish strike

The Danish players in the Players Association has just decided to go on strike starting next Tuesday. This means that the Superliga round this weekend will be the last for a while.

More important for this forum is that the Danish teams AaB and Brøndby cannot field their strongest teams in the return legs in UCQR2. As far as I know, they can field their foreigners (if they are not members of the PFA) and amateurs. This means that Brøndby may field players like Peter Schmeichel and their coach Michael Laudrup along with some junior players and perhaps a couple of second-team players. And the foreigners, of course.

The reason for the strike is that the players won't accept that the clubs can receive compensations for young players when they are sold abroad. Of course, the clubs won't give up on their compensations as they are approved by FIFA and that they will be put in a worse position than clubs in all other countries.

I don't expect a long strike, because it is a completely ridiculous situation and I believe that an agreement will be reached before long. However, I really doubt that an agreement will be reached within two weeks, so I very much doubt that Denmark will get any more points this year. This means an even more catastrophic year than the one, we have just got rid off.

The clubs, as far as I know, will not be punished as long as they field some sort of team, but I think that Ventspils and Zalgiris have a great chance of reaching round 1.

Hi Michel

A small mistake in your description. The players accept the compensation ( for young players under 23)internationally, but the Danish Federation want to expand this to the National transfers, even after the contract end.

Today I talked with a player, and to my knowledge the players misunderstand the amount. According to the Uefa list a 16 old players must be compensated at 2500€ but they think the compensation will be 50->100000€.

Personally I hope the players will be punished by the clubs.

well in Austria i know of a case (and there are more) that a club wanted to have a compensation of € 70.000 for an 18-year-old player whose contract has expired. of course the club who wanted to buy him couldn't afford, and the player is the one that suffers, because his former club doesn't need him any longer and potential new clubs can't afford the compensation.

so i understand when players want to go on strike.

And a first result of strike is that Polish U21 will play friendly match against Groclin Grodzisk instead of Denmark U21. I hope there will be no problems with senior teams match.

The only effect, the strike will have on the senior match is that Nicolai Stokholm from OB will not be able to make his debut. He was the only player in the Danish squad from the Superliga and so he is not allowed to play on Wednesday. He has been replaced by Thomas Rasmussen from Hansa Rostock.

There might be a problem, however, with the WCQ match against Ukraine on September 4th. The national arena, Parken, will be hit by sympathy strikes and that will probably make it impossible to play. The match might be postponed or switched to Ukraine or, if the strike has ended, played just as scheduled. I hope for the last solution, of course.

Oh believe the match will not be postponed. Don't see the reason for that - if Denmark doesn't want to play - please 3-0 and keep striking, good luck.

Here are the 16 Brøndby-players that can play the return leg against Ventspils: GK: David Ousted
D: Andreas Jakobsson, Daniel Agger, Martin Spelmann, Morten Rasmussen
M: Martin Arlofeldt, Marc Olsen, Nichlas Rønne, Mustafa Bozkurt, Tem Hansen, Dennis Petersen
A: Babis Stefanidis, Johan Elmander, Dennis Flinta, Glenn Christensen, Lucas Ciezlebicz

The players in bold are from the usual A-squad, but Daniel Agger was only promoted from the youth-team this summer and has only played very few games. GK David Ousted is also from the A-squad, but he has never played a first-team-game for Brøndby. The three other A-players are all from Sweden.

Tough game for Brøndby, very tough game!!!

Michael, lucky for FCK that they are out of European cups, so they don't have to embarrass themselves against presumably weaker teams
