| This report was in an Irish newspaper today (the star).
The Intertoto cup is to be killed off in the next two years. Europe's much maligned event will be given the axe after it was boycotted by The Premiership and Serie A clubs. Despite the rest of the continent - including, Spain, France and Germany taking part the event will be chopped form the calendar. the loss of the competition - a back-door entrance to the Uefa cup - will be mourned in Ireland, where clubs have enjoyed success recently. In the past three years, Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick's Athletic have all made progress. But Cork city's run this year has taken them all the way to the quarter finals.

| I would miss the Inter-Toto Cup. It is a good opportunity for additional clubs to play in Europe. I have never understood why many clubs don't want to play in it. They say it creates a longer seaon, but while the IT is underway, these same clubs are playing meaningless friendlys. Last year, Villareal had a successful run in the UEFA Cup after winning the IT Cup. |

| Next step: Seeding in Eurocups like the one in tennis. Euroleague would appear too. I hate this kind of football. Where's the sport? |

| I've never understood the need for the Intertoto Cup. Places in European competition should be earned by league position or by way of domestic cup success. Why should a team who haven't been good enough to qualify by their own merits, be allowed to compete in Europe? The same can be said about the Fair Play entrants; what a joke that is. If UEFA really want another trophy to play for, then why don't they just bring back the Cup Winners Cup? At least clubs had to have achieved something to enter it. |

| i hope that intertoto will survive. But i would rather see one round less. So four rounds and only topteams entering in round 2.One club of each country of the big five. This is a good opportunity for small clubs playing really big clubs.
Genk - Dortmund, this will probably the biggest match of the year. Same for a lot of other teams in the next rounds.
One round less, the competition will begin two weaks later than now.
So the start ( round 1 ) would be in july and not in june. The maximum of the teams per country should be 1 team and not 2 or 3 or 4 teams like now.
Round 1 : 38 teams round 2 : 19 teams of round 1 and 5 clubs of the big 5 round 3 : 12 teams round 4 : 6 teams
In this way 43 countries can play intertoto, never has played so many countries so, it should be enough. And maybe we will see winners outside the big five. |
