A Big Week for Slovenes...

This time last year I hadn't discovered Bert's site, and didn't understand anything about coefficients (I'm English, and therefore assumed that all English teams were seeded by right at all times because its our game so there!!!)

However, this week's first QL fixtures suddenly have some added significance.

Have a look at lowest important thresholds (around 25-28 depending on title-holder places etc)
Pl Country Coeff
-----------------------------
27 Romania 9.957
28 Cyprus 6.832
29 Slovenia 6.165
30 Bosnia-Herzegovina 5.499
31 Finland 4.874
32 Moldova 4.832
33 Macedonia 4.164
-----------------------------
Slovenia have three teams in Q1, all seeded and with a chance of picking up 3 points each for a win and a draw. OK, so we have to half that, but still its an average of 1.5 points per team.

With Cypriot teams starting, and getting no help from the seedings, in Q2, their coefficient will struggle.

So the upshot is, Slovenia have a real chance of getting through that first threshhold, though Romania still seem a good way off.

There are good chances for all the seeded teams in Q1 to really make some progress.

In order to cover a 3 pts deficit with three teams in the preliminary rounds they have to collect 3*3*2 = 18 pts from 14 matches (6 in CL and 2*4 in UEFA) , being seeded in only 6 of them , and providing Romania win nothing. I really don't think Slovenia can overtake Romania , unless their teams get pass through the preliminaries and score some points in the main draw.

No, I agree with you Todor.

I think they can catch Cyprus this year, and close the gap on Romania this year. However, Romania will gain back a point when the 2000/1 figures drop off the chart, so catching Romania is a long term goal.

Interestingly, though, the Slovaks may also come into reach as their good years in 2000/1 and 2001/2 drop off the chart.

They were ahead of cyprus last year as well. The only reason bert showed them below cyprus this year is because he removed the coefficient of 5 years ago.
