| Let's discuss who are in your opinions the best European players who can't participate in the final part because of any reason (injuries, national team didn't qualify etc). Let's choose three best players... for example: my choises are Andriy Shevchenko Rio Ferdinand Roberto Baggio |

| Of course Shevchenko, and I wonder if he ever will play in WC or European Championship. Ukraine in death group with Denmark, Greece and Turkey for WC-2006.
Ryan Giggs may get a go next time in group with in group with England, Poland and Austria. |

| Baggio, Boban, Shearer C'mon!! Is it 2004 or 1994 now ??
Ukraine has to blame themselves they got "easy" group but loose to Greece and loose points with weak teams.. |

| Every time we have a major international tournament I think there should be a 'Select' team from the non-qualifier countries. As FIFA & UEFA seem very concerned with TV audiences you'd think they'd want to have as many nations involved as possible.
This would also mean some of the great players from the smaller nations wouldn't miss the bigger stage... like Best, Giggs, Hughes, Rush, Weah, Yorke, etc. |

| Topic is OK, but Euro2004 is a championship for European nations that have succeded through a two years qualification.
And putting up Shearer (who has retired), and Baggio and Cisse (that wasn't good enough for their squads) is a lack of fantasy. Players like Litmanen, Gudjohnson, Giggs (and George Best of course) will be seldom seen in such national tournaments, and putting up an All-star-team will just ruin the idea.
Hello, this is a championship for nations, and Latvia is a proof that this is a team competition, not an individual competition. Isn't Latvia a cute example why we love football? You dont find many shining stars there. Maybe I'm off topic now, but so is Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo as well |

| Some people have nostalgy , I do too. Whom I will be missing on Euro this year - ? Probably the same as on Euro'00. Brazil and Agentina for simply being Brazil and Argentina. I will be missing Van Basten - Gullits duo intelligence, I will be missing Lobanovsky-coach "feather" technique in midfield, I will be missing Platini's and Klinsman's set-on-goal even in "hopeless" situations. Shmeichel's excellnet play and whole Denmark's organised football, Spirit of Portugal'84 etc ...
It's boaring show in front of us. Top teams with tired after hard season money-making "machines" gonna beat level-class teams such as Latvia, Switzerland, Russia, Greece , Bulgaria Then it will start boaring 0:0 sessions with penalites in the end. The final like France-Italy-Gemany-England will be decided by strange penalty .. |

| Djibril Cisse is suspended; he would have been there otherwise. It would be nice if Mista and Salva could be there, but only 23 can go. |

| It was Giggs choice to play for Wales and not England, so he can only blaim himself. There were other great players that fail to play in major tournaments. Eric Kantona was unlucky because France fail to qualify in 1990 and 1994. Mark Hughes was also unlucky since Wales fail to qualify. In 1992 Yugoslavia was suspended from EURO because of political reasons and the players were the victims because it was not their fault. Finally Zikos is good enough to play in the champions league final and in the french league with Monaco, but not good enough for Greek national team, as the German coach of Greece Otto Rehagkel believes. |

| Giggs is Welsh, that's why he plays for Wales. He could have played for England but he doesn't feel English. He's not to blame for this. If Slovenia and NI can qualify for world cups then so should Wales be able to especially if they have players like Rush, Hughes, Giggs, Bellamy etc.
Zikos is the weakest link in the Monaco team. |

| I agree with both. But some people argue that Giggs chose to play in Wales when he was young and he did not expect his career to be so successful so he thought better play for Wales rather than hoping that he might play for England. Zikos is the weakiest link in Monaco but in Greek national team he can be a strong one if selected. Now for the qualification Europe is the toughest place to compete for national teams. France, England and Holland failed to qualify in some world Cup and the same time Mexico always qualifies because it only faces Ondura, El Salvador and some carribean islands. It is very unfair. Denmark won the EURO in 1992 but failed to qualify for the world cup of 1994 because of high competition. Czech Repuplic finished 2nd in EURO 1996 and failed to qualify for the world cup of 1998 again because of competition. Australia has to play difficult play offs and never plays in world cups and the same time Asia has 4 teams and North America 3. Teams like China and Costa Rica played in world cup 2002 but Holland did not. |
