anita and Eurycantha, of coarse I would like to see the new regulations confirmed on the UEFA web site. I considered it to be a rumor when it first appeared in the Danish and Norwegian press. But when kicker.de (who have shown to be very informative on rankings in the past) confirmed it, and in contrast to the Norwegian press said it would be used for the season 2004/2005, I was almost sure.
But the Rosenborg article was the proof for me. The text is clearly from UEFA CL regulations. Compare the 2003/2004 rules. Only UEFA administration writes in this way. Of coarse, it could be a draft. But UEFA declared that the new regulations were approved. So unless it's an evil plot by Nils Skutle, director of Rosenborg, I think we can be pretty sure. Some people on this forum would say 100%, but you know me ....
Moreover, I don't think that UEFA consideres this change to be retroactive. They don't think in yearly coefficients. They publish every year a 5-year ranking before the start of the competition. The concept of using the up-to-date rankings to predict the seeding of next season is something that was invented outside the UEFA administration.
But still it would be nice if some of you, maybe with contact to club presidents which attended the meeting in Dublin, could confirm the information. |

I fully agree with your points of view.
In the UEFA media release from Dublin dated 22nd March 2004
Approval of the UEFA Club Competition regulations for 2004/2005
So all present in Dublin know what's all about, but till now no one (except Rosenborg) have informed officially what's going to happen.
And UEFA is not in a hurry to inform in detail either.

| Hi Bert and Eurycantha
I didnt write the article on Rosenborgs website, but I have argued on the site and to Nils Skutle and friends in the same words for some years. "UEFA-like"?
I dont believe that it is possible to retroactively turn the tides. Its unfair and unjust. And its not defendable judicially.
I believe (thats what you do in church, but whatever) that the 33%-rule may be active from next season. But retroactive, no. Even though it is good news for Rosenborg (ahead of PAOK Saloniki), I dont approve retroactive rules and acts and laws.
Well, time (UEFA) will show. And I will anyway fight against retroactive laws and regulations.

| To Bert: You said "Moreover, I don't think that UEFA consideres this change to be retroactive." I'm not sure if I unterstand you right. Do you mean with "retroactive" the calculation for the last years? But your new team ranking IS calculated with the new rule.
Could you explain, please? |

| afaik this would be bert's explanation:
Each year, UEFA officially "forgets" the former team ranking rules, and proposes new rules. Rules only count for 1 year, not for infinity.
So you can't blame UEFA for changing rules that don't exist... |

| Thanks, JPV. That's the way I understood Bert. I still was not sure how to unterstand "retroactive". |
