Middlebrough FC won the League Cup last Sunday to qualify for Europe (UEFA Cup) for the first time in their history. I guess some of the Europeans will need to check their maps.

Congratulations to Middlesbrough with their first ever trophy in a 128-year history. A real shock start did the trick for them. But I have a question concerning their penalty kick. Shouldn't that goal have been disallowed and converted to a free kick to Bolton? As I saw it, Zenden slipped and hit the ball with both feet. As far as I know, that is illegal. I'm not quite sure about the rules on that, but my guess is that M'boro had a lot of luck in that situation, perhaps Schwarzer tried to balance the luck with his fine peace of goalkeeping a little later...

It was technically illegal but how could the officials have spotted that?
