| my first impression of the new format is that it will freshen up the competition but with 8 teams still falling in from the CL it will still be reguarded as the second best competition by far |

| Well Bert , major questions are :
1) How these 80 teams are selected it's not said about qualification rounds?
2) What stage Intertoto participants will join UC.
3) What happens to 16 loosers in CL QR3, are they just discarded ?
4) Will Fair play top 3 teams still given the entrance ?
I haven't found any single reference in whole web to answer this. |

| vakho, 1) see kicker article, 2) can only join in the 1st round, 2) see uefa.com article, 4) why not? |

| 1. I read that there is now going to be 2 qualifying rounds - is this true ??
2. Will losing clubs from CL QR3 join the UEFA Cup in QR2 ?
3. Will they now allow losing clubs from CL QR2 to drop into UC in QR1 ??
4. Will they change the amount of qualifiers from each country ?
5. Surely the must at least take this opportunity to change the number of qualifiers from countries 7 - 10. |

| Hi Bert,
I would guess, that the Cup Winner Spot will have more importance in the new format as it has now. I think, that the CW will enter in a later stage of qualification for the lower ranked countries. Now, there is only a relevance for teams placed 9-18. For 9-15 the 3rd-placed league entrant, and for 16-18 the 2nd-placed and 3rd-placed league entrant has to play qualification for UEFA cup, but the Cup Winner not. A format like this seems possible for me: QR1 involving 56 teams: 17 Cup Winners from countries ranked 33-49 28 second placed teams from countries ranked 22-49 5 third placed teams from countries ranked 17-21 1 Cup Winner of Liechtenstein 2 Champions of Andorra and San Marino 3 Fairplay teams QR2 involving 64 teams: 28 Winners of 1st round 16 Cup Winners from countries ranked 17-32 6 second placed teams from countries ranked 16-21 4 third placed teams from countries ranked 11-14 5 fifth placed teams from countries ranked 4-8 3 sixth placed teams from countries ranked 1-3 1st round involving 80 teams: 32 winners of QR2 16 teams eliminated in QR3 of UCL 16 Cup Winners from countries ranked 1-16 4 third placed teams from countries ranked 7-10 5 fourth placed teams from countries ranked 4-8 3 fifth placed teams from countries ranked 1-3 1 defending cup holder 3 Intertoto teams
Tell me your opinions on this format. Topsi |

| topsi, of coarse your guess is just as good as mine. But I doubt if UEFA will emphasize the role of the cup winner. The cup winner sometimes is a small club without many resources. And is not likely to generate much money. And in these days ... |

| To topsi - Foget about 6th placed in countirs of 1-3 playing in QR. It will never happen! UEFA wants back the glory to UC -take this year 6th placed Barcelona sounds better than Valerengen from Norway. Moreover it's often CL participants playing in national cup final some have League Cups and this kind of junk.
My view is following : 1st stage 80 teams
3 Intertoto 16 loosers in QR3 32 from UC QR2
29 reserved ------------ 8 Cup winners 1-8 2 3rd placed 7-8 5 4th placed 4-8 8 5th placed 1-8 3 6th placed 1-3 3 Cup winners 9-11
QR 2 64 teams:
28 from QR1 |

| bert, a problem with your system is that the difference between nr 9 & 10 is VERY big. i think they'll adjust this, but the rest seems right.
They might change everything in fact, but that's unlikely i guess, every change needs to be compensated for some countries |
