Spanish & Italian sides this season

As of this morning there is only one Spanish side left (Real Madrid) and 4 Italian sides (Lazio, Milan, Inter and Juventus).

Is the balance of power in Europe shifting back to Italy?

No, I don't think so. Internazionale was very lucky against Valencia, Valencia deserved to go to SF. Juventus - Barcelona was a very close game and both teams could have won. But I'm glad Juventus is in SF, so Real Madrid - Barcelona is not a semi-final. It's not good to see 2 teams from same country against eachother. I hope Ajax and Real Madrid go to SF too.

I agree, it was a shame to see a good team like Valencia not go through.

I'm not a big fan of the knockout phase of the tournament and I was wondering what people thought about modifying the league format, so that more league games are play rather than knockout games.

Currently you would play 6 games in the first group phase, 6 more in the 2nd group phase, and then finally 5 more in the knockout phase if you make it to the cup final. (total 17 games)

I thought it would be good to have 4 group phases, in which you would play 6 games in the first group phase (say first groups phase groups are A-H, and team A1 and A2 advanced to the second group phase and play 4 games against B1 and B2. In addition, the games that A1 and A2 played against each other in the first group phase would be carried over to the second group phase (this would also ensure that each game in the first group round is taken seriously)); this process would also be done for the third and fourth group phases. (total 18 games)

However, I believe next year the 17 game figure will be reduced to 13.

It's just that I'd like to see better teams play each other more often, and I don't mean friendlies.

Neither Inter, Juventus, Milan deserved to go
through - luck was very much on Italian side,
it's especially will tough to see team like
Inter playing in semis.
Speaking about quarters generally I want to
mention that Koeman did a great job and created
really amaizingly strong "Ajax" squad. Good job!

Yes Italian clubs were very lucky:
Juventus: Barcelona had in the extra time 99% chance on a goal, Juventus 1%
Inter: 1 mistake of Valencia & Toldo put them through
AC Milan:Fierce battle which could have gone either side.

And who else is there: Real Madrid, who almost got out in the 1st group phase, who almost got out in the 2nd group phase. In name they have the best team, but they certainly have not shown it so far(Maybe 2 weeks ago).

I hope the next games will be beautifull because I have seen some fantastic games last 2 days, although, I think, with the wrong winners.
