| Portugal have just moved to 7th in the Country Rankings ahead of Holland. Does this mean they will now get 6 teams into next years competitions? It seems to me that they take the Countries co-efficients from the two years before (ie: for 2002/2003 they use 2000/2001 country co-efficients) rather than the previous year. Is this so and if so why? |

| Yes this is the way UEFA puts the teams in competition - generally because majority of championships ending later than UEFA finals do, however Nat. Federations must know beforehands how many teams is going to enter - to issue own regulations , schedules. UEFA is seciring itself as well by this rule - they have to put just titles of the teams in already established structure, of course there are many other aspects (TV rights etc ). So 3 teams from Greece will enter this year (Panatinaikos, AEK, Olympiakos).
However concerning Portugal it seems that they have chances to get even 6 th place - unbeleivable but it can happen. If Boavista and Porto will take 2 points in up-coming days , with the case they both qualify - in total Portugal will get 9 points that is 2.250 UEFA points for Portugal - secure enough to get 6 th place ! |

| It seems to me that Portugal has no chance of reaching Greece this year. Even in the case FCPorto and Boavista win their games Portugal will add 8 points to its score which is not enough... Greece is safe in 6th place. |

| I have to disagree. If Porto and Boavista will win they will get total 4 points + 2 bonus points for getting in final = 6 points In the final in any case they will have secured 5 points so totally it gives 11 which divided by 4 will give us 2.750 pts. Generally everything depends on Boavista - if they are through Portugal will overtake Greece. |

| Just one precision, vakho: as the winner of a final does not get bonus points, in the case of a final between Porto and Boavista Portugal would just get 4 points. |

| 2 points for winning the final plus 1 extra point for winning the competition. |

| I think there's no an extra point for winning the competition, only for reaching the final stage (check the previous years; 2001/2002: Real Madrid and Feyenord have 4, not 5 bonus points) |

| Viada is right. There is no extra point for winning the final. |

| this is for U vacko. i just don?t understand why you say portugal beeing 6th position in the coefficients is unbelieavebel. In our coeffient history we have lway been around the 5th palce.we just wen?t a little down in the last 4 years , consequences of the bosman law. rememember our international titles : Benfica-2 champions cup(5 champions cup finals lost, that means 7 presences in the champions cup finals and another lost in a uefa cup final) Porto-1 champions cup, 1 internacional cup , 1 european supercup,( a lost in the final of a cup of cups and a uefa final that they can still win!) sporting- 1 cup of cups , i think we?re 6th place in number of titles, 7th maximum. Vacko i would like you comment this text.Is portugal footbal so bad seen for the rest of the europeans like that?? |

| Well, you have biased a little bit from the main point - that time (before semis)Portugal had chance to overtake Greece - now you see it's impossible. I need to say that no one beleived that this year Portugal could overtake Greece (there were some doubts that even next year they can do so) - but Boavista and Porto produced great results - and mathematically it could became possible.
Generally I think Portugal was weaker than Greece over last 4-5 years, your major problem is that when Portugal gets 6 teams info the EC it's just Porto, Boavista and Sporting who produce the result - others 3 teams are liability! I think that should be policy in your country to closer the hugest gap between top clubs and ALL others - I just take a look at the Portugeese league table 4-5 times per season to check the corerect ordering. I hope things will improve! |

| thank you for answering Vakho.Justa one little thing, you forgot Benfica, the portuguese biggeste team ever( i?m not happy to say this because i?m a Sporting fan) I know that our football since the bosman law has been worst, but i just disagre that u say that is "UNBELIEVEBLE" Portugal beeing 6 in uefa rankings, Notice this: the netherlands have only 3 big teams(ajax, psv and feyenoord) we have four(benfica sporting, porto and boavista) the french teams have few titles in the europeans competitions, I classify our football at the same level of football of the netherlands ( but i must agree that they have better luck surviving to the bosman law, but the "great ajax" has been very sacrified with this law) in all time uefa history i think i would classify the portuguese fottball beetween 5th and 7th place. what do you think of this?? |
