| How it will be?
a) 1st pot - 8 first stage group winners
2nd pot - 8 runners up;
b) 1st pot - the 8 best of 16 first stage qualifiers in team ranking for 5 last years
2nd pot - the 8 worst ones
Wich way is more acceptable?
Bonus question:
The changes in UEFA Cup format are postponed for another year. Does it mean the 3rd placed CL teams feedback to 3rd round of UEFA Cup is valid next year? |

| Seeding: The first, ofcourse! There should be an advantage of winning the group. Groups are already build according to coefficients, winners should play second-ups.
and for the Bonus:
That Uefa did not change it regulations points to acceptance of the nr 3 of the CL!
I guess that otherwise the number of participants in round 1 should be 128 i.s.o 96 and that should change the regulations I guess!!!!

| As far as I know 16 loosers of 3rd qualification round of CL will be transfered to UC 1st round even in the new format. Then as you mentioned one must somehow "drop" 16 teams to go from 96 to 80.
In the previous lisings on this stuff people showed concern about seeding in group stage and 1/8th.
Earlier it was
1 holder + 16 loosers CL + 3 Intertoto = 20 teams
34 were seeded and 42 were coming from Qualification.
Now if those 20 stays on - we have just 60 spaces available. So all these 34 will go to qualification
and are getting 59 teams. In case UC holder do not participate one space can be open. So drift is 2-4 teams which is not problem because San-Marino and Andorra's football level can surprisingly "grow" in UEFAs outlook and 2nd , 3rd teams from these countries might be allowed to play in UC.
Looks good but ... Does somebody beleive that they can
put Lazio, Chelsea and Celta together with teams at "50something" position. I personally don't.
So next issue - 2 qualifying rounds why not?
1st qual. round 64 teams from coutries 30-52
2nd qual. round 20 seeded + 32 winners of Q1
1st round UC 54 seeded + 26 winners of Q2.
Fair? Answer : Not, but who cares ? |
