World Cup predictions
Author: feelesh

We appear to have respondents from various nations on the forum. Would anybody be prepared to say how they think their nation will manage during the WC.

Personally I expect England to finish second in group F and fall to France in the next round.

Argentina v France in one semi,
Spain v Italy in the other, with
Argentina beating Italy in the final.

PS I predicted a Man Utd v Barcelona CL final so I'm no expert.

My team went out in the qualifiers too...

Seso, I think you are right except I think that it will be Portugal and not Spain who loses from Italy in the semis. All the media seems to think that France will at least get to the final, but I think that Argentina and Brazil are stronger.

Another opinion from Portugal: i expect Portugal to win its group, defeat Spain along the way and losing to Germany in the semis.

My semis: Argentina-Brazil ; Germany-Portugal
Final: Germany-Brazil. Winner: Brazil.

However, since i expect a France-Brazil in the quarters (my real final...), you might replace Brazil for France in the above predictions.

Well, as I'm French, France is my favorite.

But as I'm a bad predictor, i prefer to give you my opinion about the 1/4 final:

France - Brasil: revenge of the last final, be careful to the Brasil, he can find a great team for this world cup.

Argentina - Belgium: Belgium has a great destructor team for his opponent. Perhaps one of the surprises of this world cup.

Cameroon - Italy: Cameroon, second surprise!

Spain- Portugal: what a derby!

see you on June 21st and 22nd to see if i'm right

Well, well ...
Any more ideas about results ??
Senegal did what nobody expected !!
It seams this is going to be some Championship... and as far as I can see some of the big teams will have to play as hard if they want just a small point ...
Nice game Senegal boys !

Looks like start game in Italy90 , nevertheless Argentina went
to the final.
But today France's ass is whiped !

Scotland is not there but I am still very interested.

A lot of smart money is going on Italy. I agree. I don't think Senegal would have beaten a well organised Italy.

Italy for me!

Re: World Cup predictions

Yes it was like Italy90!

It seems that some favorites teams will have difficulties against teams like Africans.

But the game played by France was very poor and it's the more worried of this match. Only 2 or 3 occasions in all the match, what a pity!

Now we must win against Uruguay and Denmark ( and it won't be easy!) to qualify but if the level of our play is not better, we won't go far in this competition!

Wickerman, you say "a lot of smart money is going on Italy". It's only smart money when they win. Heh

I think Italy will go very far, probably the final but that is because they have very little resistance to make it that far. Seriously I think Portugal is the only other one that can make the final on that side of the fixture tree.

The side of the fixtures with Argentina, Brasil, France, England, Nigeria, Senegal, Turkey, Russia, Japan seems much more ready for upsets. I find this a more exciting set of matches.

My WC estimat:
A) Dispite Senegals victory I will say France and Denmark. The results from round 1, just change whois gonna be 1. So 1: DK and 2) France
B) 19 Spain 2) Paraguay
C) Brazil and proberly a surprise to many people 2) Costa Rica
D) Portugal and South-Corea. Most likely Portugal as No.1
E) Same as A. The results has just altered whois gonna be No.1 Now its Germany followed by Cameroun.
F) Argentina and Sweden.
G) Italy and Croatia
H) Russia and Japan

Teams I give almost no chance to reach 1/8 finals: Uruguay, Southafrica, China, KSA, Nigeria, Ecuador and Tunesia.

The 1/8 finals:
1 Germany - Paraguay (difficult, hope and believe in Paraguay)
2 Denmark - Sweden ( The nordic clash, winner ??. Even I am a Dane, I must say Sweden)
3 Argentina - France (close game, but with some luck, bye bye France)
4 Spain - Cameroun. (adios Africa)
5 Italy - South Corea (Thanks for the WC Corea, but bye)
6 Brazil - Japan (again thanks for WC Japan, but sorry you're out)
7 Russia - Costa Rica (adios CR)
8 Portugal - Croatia ( most likely to be a great game, winner: Portugal)

quaterfinals:
2-6. Sweden vs Brazil. (sorry Sweden)
1-5. Paraguay vs Italy (The end for Paraguay)
4-8. Spain vs Portugal (The Iberian clash, with big brother as a winner)
3-7. Argentina vs Russia. (adios Russia)

Semi:
Spain - Italy
Brazil - Argentina

( 2 local derbies, This time it must be Spain, and Argentina was very good in the qualifier and they have something to figth for, after the national economic collaps)

So the final. Spain - Argentina. (The old colonial power versus the Argentina, I still believe that Spain will pull it off).

So New WC winner would be Spain.

I'm italian. After Italy-Croatia (good referees Fifa has!), this is my prediction:

semifinals:

England-Brazil
Spain-Croatia

Final:

England-Spain

Winner:

England

Re: World Cup predictions

Altough I'm not Italian, I think Italy will winn against Mexico(danat, if you put Croatia in the semi's, you agree that they at least deserved to win!)
After sunday's matches I guess it will be semi's:
Italy-Spain (easy side)
England-Argentina(what a rematch it will be!!)

and final:
Spain-England

winner:
England

But after a week one can see: anything is possible!

Now 16 teams are known. Up to here all predictions were very poor. Shall we start again?

QF
England-Brazil
Germany-Mexico
Spain-Italy
Sweden-Turkey

SF
England-Turkey
Germany-Spain

F
England-Germany
(I wish Turkey was here instaed of England)
Anyway, this would be a great final.

Winner
Germany

One observation - as world cup getting closer to the end the
quality of predictions are higher
In the final it should be winner of Japanese half vs. winner
of Korean part - why nodody likes to admit that
Winner in Japan ... Japan
Winner in Korea ... Korea

Well my favourite was and still is ENGLAND.

I think that they showed good performances in the previous matches and if they pass Brazil in the 1/4 finals (which will be their biggest test), they'll have open way to the title.

So COME ON ENGLAND !!!!!! FOOTBALL'S COMING HOME !!!!!!

The World Cup has thrown up quite a few surprises so far, so its not surprising that peoples predictions are quite far off. Making predictions for the next round is going to prove difficult and I think I'll let my heart do the talking rather than my head.
Quarters:
England Brazil
Sweden Japan
Germany Mexico
Ireland Italy

Semis:
England Japan
Germany Italy

Final:
Italy to beat England

Whilst many of the teams, in the second round are different to those I predicted before the tournament, the final is still the same as I expected. I think Brazil have a great chance of winning, thus if England and Brazil do meet in the quarters we'll have a great game on our hands. Come on England!!!!!!!!!

Re: World Cup predictions

Well, making predictions along the way is not that fair. So, I'll just update my previous ones, according to the fact that France, Argentina and Portugal are out.

Semis: Sweden-Brazil and Germany-Spain
Final: Germany-Brazil
Winner Brazil.

If I keep doing this each round i have a 50% chance of spotting the winner

It is nice too be wrong. :-)

If it was always the favorite who won, then we could stop watching the sport.

The predictions, is for me a very important part of the game.

Now where there is half time in 4th game with a spanish lead, the semifinals look likes this:

Germany-(USA-mexico) vs. Spain-(Corea-Italy)
Endland-(Brazil-Belgium) vs. Senegal-(Japan-Turkey)

The interesting is the last one. One of these 3 ARE going to the semi: Senegal, Turkey or Japan.

Who had that one before the WC startet !!!

Mexico is favorite to beat USA and if they win, they have a good chance against Germany.

So now I will say Brazil-Spain in the final.

If Italy beats Corea, it will a interesting quaterfinal between Italy and Spain (if the hold the last 45 minuts)

Monday morning, half the quarterfinals are known:
Germany-(USA-mexico) vs. Spain-(Corea-Italy)
Endland-(Brazil-Belgium) vs. Senegal-(Japan-Turkey)

Germany I haven't seen play well, so I hope they don't reach the final, Mexico, who surely will win from USA, can beat them, but the Germans keep being German.
Spain is the best team in the other quartes, but they do have a problem with the 'tournament-stress' and the history of never having reached a semi-fianl in 50 years.
England-Brazil could have been the final, were the scheme different, both teams earn a final-place(along with maybe 2 others). I hope for England, but I was impressed by Brazil the last game(against Turkey I was disappointed)
Finally the surprise-semifinalist. It all depends on who scores first in Turkey-Japan, but I hope it will be Japan, although I prefer Korea to end ahead of Japan.
So my semi's:
Germany-Spain (I'm too afraid of the Germans to put Mexico there)
England-Japan
And in my final still England beating Spain

England-Brazil as a final. NEVER. England is the ultimate team of luck, even worse than Germany. They can not play ball. It is a scandale that there are in the final 8. With that play they have done sofare is not worthy a final 8 team. They create no chances what so ever. Unfortunately Brazil has a limited defense, but I sure wish tennis match result in that game. 6-0 to Brazil. That will be the day .. of joy.

At this moment, QF is:
Germany-USA
Spain-(Korea-Italy)
England-Brazil
Senegal-Turkey

my prediction is

SF:
Germany-Italy
Brazil-Turkey

and final:
Germany-Turkey

and the champion why not Turkey?
The continent rule of world cup championship still remains since Turkey is in EurAsia

Oh dear, bad case of sour grapes there H-AAB-et, but come on, England worse than Deutschland - surely there's some irony tripping into your post.

Predictions. As the number of teams gets smaller this seems to become harder but:-

Germany bt USA
S Korea bt Spain
England bt Brazil, and how
Senegal bt Turkey

Then

Germany bt S Korea
England bt Senegal

and

England bt Germany, really easily.

As I wake up, I find that someone has deposited a large sum of money in my bank account, the object of my affections responds warmly to my advances and the Israelis and Palestinians simultaneously come up with mutually acceptable and genuinely helpful suggestions for a peace treaty.

Not really. In the first game agianst Sweden, I believe was a fair result. Should there have been a winner it should be Sweden. In the game vs. Argentina, thats is amazing how Argentina could avoid to score. They deserved to win. In the game vs. Nigeria, it was a sleep over. Perhaps, tactical okay, but not in gamecontrol and creativity.
In the 1/8 finals, the Danes made 3 error and England got 3 goals. Okay, the Danes was not able to penetrate the defense, so thats also a fair result. But England did not create chances, they did not control the midfield.
I now people would say, that a great defense and almost 100% use of chances is a good time. I don't. Not to a country like England (in size). The mentioned tactics is okay if you are a small country with 11 ballplayers. England got over 100 including worldclass stars.
Thats is why I have the attitude of England is not worthy as final 8.
But okay, since Corea, Germany, USA is there, so why not also England. hey just followedteh rules. :-)

BR BN

- my wish final is now: Spain vs. Brazil.
The Semi: Spain takes Germany. Brazil takes ???, maybe Tyrkey is a small favorite aginst Senegal, but it would be close, as the rest of the QF.

Re: World Cup predictions

H-AAB-et,

talking about teams who are not supposed to be there?
USA? a lucky win over Portugal and a tremendous lose from Poland. Definitely not
Spain? The arragonce that costed Italy its place almost cost Spain its place, Ireland should have won
Brasil? That's the uppermost arrogance. Referees and 1 glorious action have made Brasil go trough, but they do not deserve to be there. They can have fantastic actions, but they have this arrogance I don't like and I hope it will stop them.
Turkey got 1 early goal against Japan, but could not score a second time against a very poor Japan.
England won striding over Argentina, a terrible result-play agains Nigeria. They were lucky against the Danes with the first goal, but they proved to be the best by the other 2 goals, what neither Spain, Italy, nor Turkey could!
And you also still have Senegal: playing very hard and individual and Korea: with an extra-large heart, incredible, but better than Italy?
So, if you want to rule all of these out, what's left? Germany. Who wants Germany as a champion. Especially not the way they are playing. I hope they loose quickly from the USA. It's WW II all over again.

Summary:
It's a game, not always the teams that deserve to win win, referees are a big influence, and you need a good team that wants to win with a bit of extra(like Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Beckham) and a team that doesn't start defending when they are 1 up(like Italy, Spain, Turkey) to make a team look like a great team (in my eyes): that's England and Brasil. Other teams can win by fighting(Germany, Korea, Ireland), I like it when they make surprises, but in the end a great team should win the worldcup that are not as arragant as the Brasilians. So England stays for me the choise. Although I do like the madness of the Coreans.

As we can hope and pray what we like, WE are not on the field and can only watch, I surely will, how the ball rolls and turns.

A lot of pleasure with all the games to come

R.

So now it's only up to Brazil to win it.

However, i did not put some money on my prediction. Well, i'll never get to be rich anyway...
